This hand-carved pendant is a faithful reproduction of a 2nd-century Gnostic talisman bearing the image of Abraxas—a powerful symbol in ancient mysticism. Depicted with a rooster's head, serpent legs, and armed with a whip and shield, Abraxas was believed to embody the unity of opposites and the balance of cosmic forces. The name "ABRAXAS" is inscribed above the figure, just as on ancient engraved gemstones worn for protection and spiritual insight.

Gnosticism became known in the 2nd century A.D. as a philosophical and religious movement that relies on esoteric knowledge or personal experience with the divine.  Gnosticism says that humans are divine souls trapped in the ordinary physical world. This Gnostic god is described as having the head of a rooster, the body of human being, and two legs in serpent form, holding a shield and a whip. The rooster’s head symbolizes vigilance and the serpent legs embody wisdom or rebirth. Abraxas is a god that combines all opposites into one Being.
