Cyrus II of Persia, commonly known as Cyrus the Great and also called Cyrus the Elder by the Greeks, was the founder of the Achaemenid Empire, the first Persian Empire.

He wrote the First Declaration of Human Rights in 539 BCE, granting individual and religious freedoms to those within his empire and released the Jews from exile.  From Asia Minor in the West to India in the East, the Achaemenid Empire under Cyrus was the largest empire the world had yet seen.
