This handcrafted bronze pendant is a reproduction of an ancient Gnostic magical gem depicting Chnoubis, the enigmatic lion-headed serpent revered throughout the Greco-Egyptian world of Late Antiquity. Combining the lion's strength with the serpent's power of renewal, Chnoubis was believed to be a guardian of health, vitality, and divine protection.
I carefully hand-carved this Chnoubis necklace design, kiln-fired it in bronze, and paired it with a delicate gold-filled chain. Every piece is handmade in my Florida studio using traditional artisan techniques.
Surrounding the lion-headed serpent are solar rays that emphasize Chnoubis's connection to the life-giving power of the sun. To the left appears the distinctive Chnoubis symbol, a magical sign found on numerous ancient amulets and believed to enhance the protective qualities of the talisman.
The inscription ΧΝΟΥΜΕΩ (Chnoumeo) is a magical form of the deity's name commonly found on ancient gems. At the bottom, the sacred word ΑΒΡΑΣΑΞ (Abrasax) invokes one of the most powerful divine names in Gnostic tradition. Abrasax was associated with cosmic power, spiritual protection, and the harmony of the universe.
Worn as a protective amulet nearly two thousand years ago, the image of Chnoubis continues to fascinate as a symbol of strength, transformation, healing, and ancient wisdom.

A striking piece of wearable history, this Chnoubis amulet connects the wearer to the mystical traditions of the ancient Mediterranean world.
Bronze has been valued since antiquity for its strength and warm, golden tone. Over time, it naturally oxidizes—much like silver—creating a rich patina that adds depth and character. Its original luster can be easily restored with a jeweler’s polishing cloth as needed.
